Nikon NX Studio Review: How Good Is This Free Photo Editor?.
In addition to the Color Control Point method of selection in the previous version, there are Select Control Points that are similar to the method used by Viveza.
This is hands down the most powerful selection tool I've ever used, and if anything, the version in Capture NX 2 works even better than Viveza does.
To use a Selection Control Point, select the tool from the toolbar and click on the area you want to select. Like a regular control point, you can drag out a slider to set the radius that will be affected by the selection.
You can also set the opacity of the selection, and whether to view a combination of the selection and the original image, or just a mask view that is very useful to verify what you've selected. Figure 3. Figure 4. For more localized control, the Selection Brush lets you paint your selection, after which you have all of the same adjustment options.

This tool is similar to the Healing tool in Photoshop, but I find that it works much better at blending changes with the surrounding areas. Sirraj: well I should say, stay with NX2! I do have the Color Efex Pro plugins, though I prefer they way they work in NX2 as just more non-destructive edit steps.
But the concern remains of whether Nikon is truly dedicated to NX2 or if they will let it flap in the wind and die a slow death of neglect. What a pain that is! And yes, the NX2 developed image is still better and nearer to what I did with my camera.
NX2 has still an andvantage here, and for me that puts an end to the discussion. Still I strongly object to the research for a holy grail that does everything, a swiss knife of raw developement and image editing that solves every problem.
Nothing similar exists. For many operations, filters, different sharpenings, Photoshop cannot be replaced by something in the early steps of developement.
And I see the problem for a total beginner, but I cannot imagine a serious image worker who has no Photoshop. I cannot remember when I bought my CS3, and how much I paid for it. Looks like it has always been in my computer.
NX2 gives the best starting point for image editing. Photoshop is the most complete final image editor. Anything else is a compromise. I also suggest that Adobe Lightroom and Apple Aperture think we are complete idiots, unable to develop and refine through the years a hyerachy of folders and back ups strong enough to store and retrieve our images.
Have you checked the download cost of Capture NX2 lately? It went up. I am running licensed copies on four P. Video conversion and editing is simply amazingly fast now that most products do use the GPU. William Barrow: Are you still there? Still sure NX3 will be out Q1 ?
With a current interest in HDR I note that this can be or was? What of the other Nik plug-ins Windows platform? Having looked at pricing on the Nik plug-ins, it seems sensible to purchase the whole suite just to get the HDR package — iff there is any benefit in doing so.

Well done. What do you think? The default conversion is a little different, but not so different to be dramatically noticeable. I too learned the wonders of CNX2 from your ebook. A main concern is the quality of raw conversion. Does it compare to CNX2? The biggest differences between products are with their tools and workflow. I am shooting a Nikon D and understand that one benefit of using Capture NX2 is the Nikon lens abberation adjustments that are applied based upon the specific lens used.
Would this be a good work flow? Reading some old posts about NX2 and Camerabits etc. NX2 gives superior results for processing the RAW files but Lightroom is best for cataloging, reviewing, organizing, and finding one of the tens of thousands of files I have. I can no longer sort photos in LR and then see the stars and colors in NX2 the way I could before upgrading — and the ITPC data no longer translates between programs — some upgrade!
It would be nice if they played together. I figured out the overexposure issue in ACR. I saw settings to make it compatible through Bridge CS3. Not very helpful for LR3. After reading your posts I thought this would be the right place to ask my question. I am encountering an error in CNX2 with respect to applying settings file that contains linked-enhancements i.
CNX2 would not apply the enhancements after the edit step that has the linked enhancements. Are you aware of this issue or I am doing it in a wrong way? No loss to anyone to get rid of the old stuff.
PrzemkoT I have this problem. Spectro Nikon studio basically consolidated nikon 3 software. Urbex Mark Nitpick but I'm pretty sure View uses the sidecar format too. SteveAnderson Unfortunately you can not adjust colour. It is just curves. Each company lets us mess with the things we dont need to mess with. Revenant NX Studio is about a year old, I think, which is "new" compared to the much older software that is now discontinued.

So if there is no magnifying tool does that mean that if you want to crop a certain section of the picture that it wont be up close? Also can you edit logos with capture NX 2? Really good price. This is extrememly unusual for phot editing packages and a feature that is found on even the free on line manufacturers — can anyone help me — I cannot even find an answer in the most comprehenseive NX2 books.
This is the worst program for processing lots of images, the workflow is simply unuseable, I have had nothing but problems. Even simple things like resizing the image window when you zoom in and out, they have not been able to make work, so you have to double handle everything. Worst of all, is that for no reaosn that I can figure, the files rotate automatically when you go to adjust the curves, and you cant get it to stop, so you have to close the program and restart it.
I have been tryin tio use this program for three years now, and it simply is not in any way useable as a professional tool. I love using Nikon Catpyure 4 — it is fast, easy to use, and get s amazing results from the files. I have also found Capture NX2 to be unusable. Talked to nikon about the problems but found no solutions.
Workflow is terrible. I have used Nikon digital with good results since Nikon View and Capture 4 are the best no nonsense software for people that have to get the job done. Capture NX is good for people that one file that they would like to tinker with all day. I probably would have bought something else. I wish someone would start a petition to get Nikon to bring back Capture 4. I would do it if I knew how. Do you know if Capture NX2 allows you to copy and paste an image from one place to another, such as needed to produce one panorama from two images?

But one of my primary complaints with this review nikon capture nx2 free was that neither app offered a complete feature set. ViewNX-i's Raw processing capabilities were rather more limited in the interests of approachability, while Capture NX-D lacked features like support for geolocation, keywording, movies, slideshows and more. It's essentially a replacement for both applications, offering almost every feature of the pair in a single program. Capture NX-D and ViewNX-i will remain available for download, but are unlikely to be updated to add support for new cameras or compatibility with future operating system updates.
It comes bundled with a new version of Nikon Transfer 2 whose sole change is to add support for NX Studio itself. Although with that said, AVI-format movies from a couple of dozen Coolpix models released between and can't be played back in the app.
The user interface is aesthetically similar to that of both earlier apps, but it's now cleaner, friendlier and more standards compliant than before. Icons are monochromatic, with a bolder yellow accent color used to call attention to enabled options, rather than the more muted yellow of the Capture NX-D and ViewNX-i. And unlike both earlier apps, there are no drop shadows or gradient effects, giving NX Studio a cleaner, more modern look.
Adjustment panels are no longer hidden behind toggle buttons, expanding a new one no longer causes a previous one to vanish from the UI, and nor do conflicting variations of a single control appear in multiple places as in the earlier app. If you only use a subset of the controls on offer, you can also create a custom panel containing just those specific controls, which helps made them easier to find. And unlike in Capture NX-D, Rrview conventions are now properly followed, so you can tab or shift-tab to switch back and forth between fields when typing in values directly, saving some wrist strain in having to reach for your mouse or touchpad repeatedly.
One slight shortcoming is that while keyboard shortcuts are supported — for example, the F key toggles full-screen mode — there's no list of shortcuts to be found in the otherwise-excellent user manual, and nor are they listed in the app's settings. There are relatively few downsides to the new UI. You can no longer undock and float panels to place them wherever you like on the screen, nor can you dock them in different locations to their defaults, other than for the film strip.

For people with large numbers of files, should offer the option of showing file names in a compact format rather than thumbnails taking up huge amounts of the screen. The results are excellent and the software is quite speedy and the new workflow is much quicker. Thanks Nikon for a great professional grade, free, software. So far, it has crashed on my Win 10 PC several times, and it often refuses to actually execute things like Retouch. Convoluted to say the least. I have a decent setup, recent i7, 16GB ram, but NX studio runs kinda slow and my computer is churning away just to go through photos. Strangely, free accessing photos via memory card, it's much faster, so it doesn't like pulling from my folder on the computer.
Wondering if I set it up wrong or something I have set up the colours spaces so they are identical in NX and Affnity. When I export a tiff file to my harddisk and nion open it in Affinity, the colors are spot on.
